A Smart Way to Invest
September 2022 being the first launch, investors were encouraged to actively participate in New Zealand’s growth plan and not just place their money and walk out. As of March 2025, 115 applications were received, representing 362 people. From these, 46 were approved, while 33 more received approval in principle, showing a strong start in growing interest. New Zealand is opening more doors for international investors with the Active Investor Plus Visa, a programme aimed to bring people who contribute more than just their capital. It is to attract investors who will bring experience, global networks and a drive to help businesses grow. The goal is simple, to boost innovation, create jobs and strengthen New Zealand’s economy for the long term.

To make things easier, new visa settings took effect on 1 April 2025, introducing two investment paths:
Growth Category – for higher-risk, higher-return investments such as managed funds or direct investment in New Zealand businesses (NZD $5 million over 3 years)
Balanced Category – for lower-risk options like bonds and property-type investments (NZD $10 million over 5 years)
Global Confidence in New Zealand Immigration New Zealand had received 401 applications, covering 1,288 people, seeing a potential total investment of NZD $2.385 billion, seen in October 2025.291 applications have already been approved in principle and 78 investors have gotten residency. Together, their investments total around NZD $499 million, most of which has been directed into managed funds and bonds approved by Invest New Zealand.
This strong response shows how global investors see New Zealand as a trusted, forward-looking place to do business.

Where Investors Are Coming From
The programme has drawn interest from across the world. The most number of applications was from the US, second from China and Hong Kong, followed by Germany, Singapore, Taiwan and Japan. Applications from around the world show how broad New Zealand’s reputation as a stable, well-managed investment destination.
The updated visa also makes investing easier than before. Key improvements include:
Lower investment thresholds
Broader investment options
No English language requirement
Less time required to be spent in New Zealand
The Active Investor Plus Visa is more than a pathway to residency, it’s a partnership between New Zealand and the world’s most forward-thinking investors. With billions already committed, it’s helping to power innovation, strengthen businesses and create opportunities for future generations.
