Why Investors Are Flocking to New Zealand – And What It Means

The New Zealand government has created an open invitation to new migrants, for not only their capital, but experience and skills as well, with a flood of formal interest in the new 'golden’ visa. In less than three months, Immigration New Zealand (INZ) received over 180 applications for the Active Investor Plus visa, which was comparatively higher than the previous years of applicants.
A potential of $845 million of new investment is presented for New Zealand businesses, leading to a rise in the country's economic growth. It also indicates expansion, hire and growth of Kiwi Businesses as well as means more opportunities for New Zealanders.
Economic Growth Minister Nicola Willis highlights that the investor migrants are drawn to the country’s reputed stability and business-friendly economy with great potential.
“In a competitive global market for capital and talent, it’s encouraging to see New Zealand’s prospects being recognized,” she said. “These investors don’t just bring financial resources—they also contribute skills, expertise and experience that will drive long-term economic growth. It’s a win-win for the country.
New Zealand Calls and Investors Answer
Immigration Minister Erica Stanford stated that they are seeing a good and strong response from new migrant investors mainly from Asia and North America, welcoming their capital, knowledge and contribution to New Zealand’s economic growth.
On 1st of April 2025, the Government altered the Active Investor Plus visa to a simpler two-pronged system - The Growth category and The Balanced category.
Other changes made was expanding the scope of acceptable investments and removing potential barriers to investment such as the requirement of the English language.
As of 23rd June 2025, 100 applications received preliminary approval, out of which 7 were transferred and invested funds in New Zealand, granting them resident visas. From the 7, five invested in the Growth category and the remaining two under the Balanced Category leading to a total investment of $45 million.
