In June 2025, a two-day hands-on workshop in Bhopal, India, brought in a total of 29 teacher educators and vocational trainers from the Pandit Sunderlal Sharma Central Institute of Vocational Education (PSSCIVE) and the Regional Institute of Education (RIE). Organized by Tablet Academy with Microsoft and KPMG, the program introduced foundational AI concepts, digital pedagogy and tools like Microsoft Learn for classroom and lab integration. Highlighting student-based learning, the training showcased AI-supported lesson planning, interactive simulations and digital evaluation to boost vocational education.
The workshop emphasized AI’s transformative potential in fields like Food Technology, Dairy Technology and Food Packaging. Dr. Rakesh Kumar Raman from PSSCIVE pointed out AI-powered virtual labs and simulations for teaching complex processes like pasteurization and fermentation, especially in resource-limited settings. These tools make abstract or equipment-intensive concepts accessible, fostering deeper understanding and practical skill development among students through immersive virtual experiences.
A key session led by Mr. Ross Hunter introduced Artificial Neural Networks using accessible tools like Autodraw and Teachable Machine. Sandeep Kumar Ratnere, an RIE teacher, found these no-code solutions eye-opening, enabling educators to integrate AI without coding expertise. This approach normalised technology, encouraging teachers to create engaging, practical learning experiences that prepare students for a tech-driven economy.

This is not just about keeping up with technology, it's about transforming classrooms into future-ready learning spaces. When educators feel confident using AI, students benefit from more engaging, accessible and effective learning experiences. But are we doing enough to scale such training across the country? What kind of long-term support will teachers need to truly integrate AI into their practice? The potential is exciting!
