SINGAPORE / BANGKOK / MANILA — In a move that underscores a more direct approach to international engagement, Massey University has deployed its academic leadership across key Asian cities, following its Open Day in Singapore on 20 March.
The university’s ongoing roadshow, which includes stops in Bangkok and Manila on 28 March, places faculty members and senior officials at the centre of its outreach—marking a departure from conventional recruitment formats that typically rely on intermediary-led information sessions.
Academic Transparency Highlighted in Faculty-Led Sessions
At each stop, sessions are led by academic representatives, allowing prospective students to engage directly with those responsible for program design and delivery.
This format enables more detailed discussions around curriculum structure, industry integration, and graduate outcomes, areas that are increasingly central to student decision-making.
Industry Alignment Highlights Program Strengths
Massey University’s program offerings presented during the sessions reflect a strong applied focus, particularly in areas linked to workforce demand.
Among the highlights is the Master of Applied Social Work, a two-year programme incorporating approximately five months of field placement, designed to support transition into New Zealand’s social services sector.
Other areas of emphasis include aviation, engineering, business, and creative disciplines—fields where practical training and industry relevance are positioned as key differentiators.

Changing Student Expectations Highlight Direct Engagement
The roadshow format also incorporates interactive elements, including open forums and, in some cases, alumni participation.
These sessions provide prospective students with insight into both academic pathways and post-study outcomes, reflecting a growing demand for transparency in international education.
Strategic Commitment Indicated by Regional Presence
The continuation of the roadshow across Southeast Asia highlights Massey University’s sustained focus on the region.
By deploying faculty and institutional representatives on the ground, the university signals an intent to engage more directly with prospective students and their families, prioritising access to first-hand information over standardised messaging.
Upcoming Destination: Manila
The Manila session on 27 March is expected to follow the same faculty-led format, offering attendees an opportunity to engage directly with academic representatives and gain detailed insights into programme structures and career pathways.

A Significant Change in Strategy
Massey University’s roadshow reflects a broader shift within international education, where institutions are increasingly expected to provide not just visibility, but verifiable, source-level information.
In this context, direct academic engagement is emerging less as an added value, and more as a baseline expectation.
